So it’s difficult to write this blog for two reasons. 1) There’s way too much to write. 2) Bryan and Garrett are distracting me with “Toe of Finger”, where you run either a toe or finger across the other person’s upper lip and they have to guess which one it is.
Every week day we visit with a family in the village down the road. The mom’s name is Mary and she has four kids- Cintia (12), Lisbeth (9), and Adrian and Adriana (4). So far we’ve just been hanging out with them for an hour or two each day, building relationships. The kids are awesome. They love playing with us and are so funny. Mary is a little bit more reserved, but I have confidence that God is going to open her up as time goes on. Luckily Jon is absolutely fluent in Spanish, and the rest of us know some too, so communication isn’t really a problem even though she doesn’t speak any English at all.
Other than that we’ve been keeping really really busy. We’ve been to an orphanage and helped with construction on a school. We’re reading two books, plus the Bible. Laundry has to be done by hand, which is actually kind of fun, but it takes a while. We meet as a team daily to talk about what God is doing in our lives and meet all together at night to discuss what we’re reading, worship, and learn. We have Spanish, first aid, and CPR lessons. Saturdays are our day off. We went to America last Saturday! There was air conditioning! We could flush our toilet paper! Sadly though, I spent most of my time there asleep on a mall bench.
God has been doing huge things in my heart. But very subtly so. He’s teaching me about seeking Him in all different ways. My view of Him is SO much bigger and broader than it was two weeks ago. He’s been healing me in all sorts of ways and forming me into who He wants me to be. I don’t know exactly who that is yet, but I’m loving the process. I don’t even have the words to describe what He’s been up to with our whole group. Just know that we’ve met some big challenges and God has used them to grow and teach us.
I really feel like I’m not doing my time here justice. It seems like we’ve been here for two months instead of two weeks. Our days are so packed full and God does extraordinary things everyday. No two days are the same, and none of them are “normal”.

  1. Wow Lila, it sounds like you are really enjoying your experiences. I’m glad that you found a way to be able to do this; but through God everything is possible anyway. Keep working hard and Godspeed.

  2. Lila I’m so glad you’re loving your time in Mexico!! It’s so exciting to hear what God is doing! You are constantly in my prayers! I love you almost as much as Jesus does!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. “You rejoice in this, though for a short time you have been distressed by various trials so that the GENUINENESS of your faith-more valuable than gold, which perishes though REFINED by fire-may result in praise, GLORY, and honor to Jesus Christ.”
    1 Peter 1:7

    You’re like a little golden pot, all…covered in fur & Jesus….

    Okay, so maybe that’s not the right quote, but I would imagine you’re very familiar with what I’m alluding to.
    It’s beyond cool to hear about the joy & fulfillment that you’re discovering everyday. What a beautiful work He is going:)

    On a side, far more trivial, but hilarious note;
    When I think about you speaking Spanish with this family I would hope that you’re able to recollect all our fine Espanol education with Senora Sudz & ‘It’s the look and den its da touch” Moralles…
