We
still meet with the young women every Friday at 3:00. It’s become so
enjoyable as we’ve gotten to know them and become friends. Here in
Swazi sex is huge. This is evident in their 42% rate of HIV/AIDS as
well as the high number of teen pregnancies. Obviously this issue of
sex and the role it plays in their culture is something we discuss
often with the girls. There’s fault of both sides of the gender line,
but we can only really address it from the feminine side. We realized
how skewed their perspective would be because of this though. If all
they heard from us was that they’re beautiful simply because they’re
made in God’s image, and that waiting for sex after marriage is better
than not, and that they have power as women then they would pale in the
face of real temptation and real decisions because the boys in their
lives do not uphold the same message. Therefore, we thought it wise to
let them hear from the guys on our team what a Godly man thinks. So we
had them write down questions they had and I decided to post them as a
blog. I found grammatical errors to be quite hilarious, so I kept them.
Apologies if they’re hard to understand.

You
could argue that hearing from the guys is giving them false hope
because there seem to be no boys here who live up to the standards that
Jon and Bryan do, but I would respond to that with Romans 8:24-25, “Now
hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if
we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”
I love that you and Jess are working on this. Jess asked for feedback from her readers on how to respond. I’m curious to see what everyone thinks.
I love this, Lila (especially with the grammatical mistakes!) Love that you are pouring into these women this way!
